Questions & Answers
Arkansas insurance questions, answered straight
These are the questions folks actually ask us. If yours isn't here, call the office — a real person in North Little Rock will pick up.
What is an independent insurance agency?
An independent insurance agency represents several insurance companies instead of just one, so we can compare prices and coverage and find the fit that makes sense for you. Mid-Ark Insurance Group – Hickman Agency is independent, which means when your renewal jumps or your situation changes, we can move your policy to a better carrier — and you don't have to go find a new agent to do it.

How much car insurance do I need in Arkansas?
Arkansas requires liability coverage of 25/50/25 — $25,000 bodily injury per person, $50,000 per accident, and $25,000 property damage. That's the floor, not a plan. One bad wreck can run past those limits, and the difference comes out of your pocket. We usually recommend higher liability limits plus uninsured motorist coverage, and we'll show you what that actually costs per month so you can decide.
See our auto insurance page for a full coverage breakdown.
Does homeowners insurance in Arkansas cover hail and wind damage?
Yes. A standard homeowners policy covers wind and hail, but a lot of Arkansas policies carry a separate wind/hail deductible that's figured as a percentage of your dwelling coverage instead of a flat dollar amount. That can add up to thousands, so you want to know your real number before storm season. We check it on every home quote we put together.
Will bundling my home and auto insurance save money?
Usually, yes. Putting home and auto together is normally the biggest discount there is in personal insurance. Because we're independent, we can bundle with whichever of our carriers prices your particular combination best — and we run that math again at renewal.

What insurance does a small business in Arkansas need?
Most Arkansas small businesses need general liability at a minimum, and workers' compensation is required for most employers with three or more employees. Depending on what you do, you may also need commercial auto, commercial property, or a business owner's policy (BOP) that puts property and liability together. Tell us how the business runs and what your contracts require, and we'll tell you which policies apply — and which ones you can skip.

How do I file a claim with Mid-Ark Insurance Group?
Call our North Little Rock office first at (501) 801-7610. We'll help you document the damage, get the claim reported to your carrier the right way, and stay on it until it's settled. Going through your local agent means somebody who knows your policy is in your corner, instead of you working through a national call center by yourself.
Contact information is on our contact page.
Do I need an umbrella policy?
It's worth a look if you own a home, have savings to protect, or carry more exposure than most — teen drivers, a rental property, a pool. An umbrella adds $1 million or more of liability coverage on top of your auto and home limits, and it usually costs a lot less per year than folks expect.
Ask us for an umbrella quote via the quote form.
Why did my insurance rate go up when I haven't filed a claim?
Rates can go up without a claim because carriers price for regional storm losses, higher repair and construction costs, and statewide claim trends — all of which have pushed Arkansas premiums up the last few years. The good news is that we can shop your policy across several carriers at renewal, which is usually the quickest way to take the sting out of it.
